Shareable Reports with Dashboards

Dashboards allow you to organize the results of your data project and share with others. Teammates with access to Dataiku DSS can log in and see the live dashboard, but you can also export the dashboard as a report for wider distribution.

This How-To will walk through the process of creating dashboard reports, first manually and then automating the process so you can get back to doing data science.

Export Your First Dashboard Report

First, ensure that your Dataiku administrator has set up the dashboard export feature.

Then, from the dashboard you want to export, from the Actions menu choose Export. This opens a modal dialog that displays the options for your export: you can choose the format (PDF, PNG, JPG), paper size; landscape vs. portrait orientation, and whether to export just the visible slide or all slides. When ready, click Export Dashboard and the dashboard downloads to your local machine. The dashboard report is ready to share with anyone!

As a best practice, you may want to create a dashboard that contains technical details for teammates working with you on the project, and a separate dashboard for Reports. The content the two dashboards have in common can be shared as insights.

Automate the Distribution of Reports

It’s great to be able to generate a dashboard report at will, but when you have to produce these reports on a regular basis for a larger audience, you’ll want to automate the process.

First, you should be familiar with the basics of automation and building scenarios in Dataiku.

Then, to automate the distribution of a dashboard report, create a new scenario (Jobs > Scenarios). If you want the report to be sent on a regular basis, add a trigger.

Then, click Add Reporter and select how you want to distribute the report. See the reference documentation for details. To include the report in the message, click Add Attachment and then Dashboard export. Select the dashboard to export and the options for the export.
